This is a Least Sandpiper, oblivious to the world and having a thorough preen of the wing coverts. I have lots of the bird posing with face visible but I like behavioural images like this.

Yep - a different composition.
The world is full of birds on sticks ;-)

Well, there's so many of them posted a shot has to really have a wow factor to be noticed.

Off topic, but for me it's all about the subject. I have loved birds and nature all my life so a beautiful image of any bird in any situation, is a joy and delight.

Yes but what makes a beautiful image?

For my money the elements are the same as for any image: light, composition and moment.

Few birds on a stick have moment. They may be sharp and well exposed and even well composed but are forgettable without moment.

I'm sure birds would turn their back on me too!

i love pipers (and all shore birds, really) they seem to have such character!
