Looks like Sony finally updated their RX10 camera with the 5th iteration:

OK, so its only a 1" sensor, but initial reviews are pretty positive. If I didn't already have an APSC and all the glass I want, this would be a pretty good Dad-cam.

I loved my RX10 IV as a backup/travel camera and have pre-ordered the V. I was hoping the price would be closer to $2100 but with the prices folks were paying for the used models it doesn't surprise me. The DPReview article does say that the price is pretty much in line with the original price of the RX10 IV taking into account inflation. It does look like the menus are the newer style of the alpha cameras.

I'm really impressed with the focal range. I'd have to travel with my 16-55mm and maybe a Tamron 50-400mm to have the equivalent reach on my A6700.

I decided to take my RX10 IV on our European river cruise last fall and overall was happy with it. It certainly was smaller than the a7RV and I didn't have to take other lenses. There were times when I wished I had the a7RV and Samyang 35-150 to get better indoor shots of churches and museums but the extra reach did make it possible to get some nice shots of the castles along the Rhine. The new features on the RX10V should make it work better as a backup for shooting some sports. I'm waiting now to see what MPB's final quote will be on my RX10IV. I bought it used from them and the online quote I got was for more than I originally paid.

I suspect that when they saw used RX10IV cameras selling for as much as $1000 or more over the price of a new one they realized that the market still existed. A couple of years ago my wife and I went to NYC for our anniversary. I had to make a trip to B&H just to shop. I was actually able to get out without buying anything but one of the salesmen tried hard to sell me a RX10iv. He called it one of the most fun cameras to use and showed a variety of photos he had taken with it and printed out. A year or so later I was looking for a backup camera and remembered that conversation. I found one at MPB in Like New condition for $1350. Soon afterwards they were discontinued and prices jumped for used ones.

I hope they [Sony] similarly realize that the market still exists for the RX100, because I could really use one of those... and I don't want to pay new-in-box price for a used camera.

I just got an email from MPB and completed the form to get paid. I purchased the RX10IV from them 15 months ago for $1350, just before it was discontinued. I received a quote from them last week for $1820 in Excellent condition. The email let me know that they actually revised the bid to $1830 since I included the lens hood. I sold my a7RV to them last month and they revised the quote down due to a high shutter count. I guess it's good that the RX10 series has the leaf shutter so there is no shutter count info available. I've got the RX10V on preorder and looking forward to getting it in August. I think I'm done buying for a while between the a7Rvi and this camera. We have a river cruise scheduled for November so now I have to decide which camera to take. My plan has been to take the a7Rvi with my 35-150 f/2-2.8 and Sony 16-35 f/4 since I suspect I'll spend more time inside.
