Hello everyone! My new RX100 vii arrived today, and it not only looks smaller than I expected (that's a good thing), but it also looks way more complicated than I thought it would be.

I currently have an A7c and an A7iv, so the Sony menu system is not entirely foreign to me. However, this small "point & shoot" seems very in-depth for me.

My main reason for buying this RX100 vii is to capture an indoor graduation ceremony where larger cameras are not allowed.

On a side note; this was a "grudge purchase" for me, so I'm not overly eager/excited/thrilled to explore this camera thoroughly like I do with other equipment I buy. I just need to master it before the graduation event which will be in a few months from now. So, I need the "Cliff's Notes" version on how to set this thing up to grab some sharp graduation shots inside a large sports arena with low/bad lighting.

Congratz on the RX100 - it's a very nifty little camera. I love mine and keep it in my Outback's center console, ready to go...

I rarely use it for critters in motion, so for settings, I usually use these:

Aperture mode - F5.6
Metering mode - Highlight
Drive - Single
Focus - AFC
Focus Area - Tracking center
Subject recognition - Human
SteadyShot - On
RAW files
White level - Auto

If I'm feeling lazy, I'll switch it over to P or Auto.

If you haven't already, you should pick up a small case for it. I use an older LowePro (similar to the CS20 or CS20III):

LowePro RX100.jpg
  • DSC-RX100M7
  • 18.2 mm
  • ƒ/4
  • 1/100 sec
  • ISO 400

ThinkTank also makes a 'Little Stuff It! Belt Pouch V3.0' that looks interesting.

Have fun!
