As much as I enjoy to see a little snow I know it's no fun for the birds. Fortunately if they discover our garden they are not going to go hungry. Just a few quick shots from this morning whilst the snow remains.

Love the natural perch shots, very well done.

I need some snow or sun. Trying to shoot in our typical Michigan winter daylight with no snow to help boost the light is abysmal. The best I could get was ISO 8000 with a shutter speed of 1/160 using the 200-600 wide open. I envy @spudhead with his long A-Mount fast primes!

Cheers Tim. The mist lifted for a while which helped, otherwise I was also in the high thousands. If I setup a hide then I'll be able to get much closer and make more use of my 70-200 F2.8 when the light isn't playing ball. The 400 2.8 would be very nice but probably not before the mortgage is paid off!

Sorry Tim the 300 is the only reason I got any shots yesterday, even the 400 4.5 and 500 4.5 were little use my birds for the most part love the dark corners of the garden, Sony have left a gap that they need to fill with an affordable fast prime, I wish the lea5 would take converters, for a long time I used the 70-200 2.8 and 1.4 it did decent job on the a77ii and a99ii

I do find it odd that a 300 f2.8 - which was always popular for SLR - is not available in Sony E mount or Canon R mount or Nikon Z mount. Canon issued a patent recently (posted on CanonRumors) for a 300 f2.8 with built-in 1.4x teleconverter, which I think would be popular if they (or anyone else) ever produce it.

I have a generic A-Mount 1/.4TC, not sure if it will fit my 80-200/2.8 but may give it a try. My setup is 16' away, so not sure how well 280mm would do.

This is where you gotta' jump on board the 'A' train! There were several long primes made that would work very well on your M4 with an LA-EA5. There were 400/500/600 available in f/4 and f/4.5 Not super-fast, but manageable size-wise. Tim I have had most every option for a-mount over the years and one worth a look is the Minolta 200 2.8 super sharp and works well with 1.4 tc and the lens is now cheap and super small, I have A copy of it which is with my son and he will not give it back. I will try the minolta 300 2.8 next time out on the lea-4

Thanks Fred. We don't see too much snow these days but where we moved to this year is a little higher up in altitude so we'll probably see a bit more than at our old place. I don't mind the snow so much as I got used to that living in South Germany but the icy roads are a little more challenging especially with summer tyres on!

Cheers Clint! It will soon warm up again. We'll probably have 10+ for Xmas! Or just as soon as I swap my summer tyres for some winter ones it's guaranteed we won't see snow again!

Believe it or not, some of the bridges here in Tucson have signs that say ice forms on bridges first! (We had a winter storm last night and as I type this there is a light dusting of snow on the top of the mountains that surround Tucson).
