During my stay at Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve, I took a gentle walk around Loch Kinord on an overcast, lightly rainy day. The flat light softened the entire landscape, muting the contrasts and quietening the scene.
As I followed the footpath, I paused at this slightly chaotic tangle of vegetation gathered in the shallows.
What held my attention were the two saplings rising from the confusion, young, slender forms emerging from the mess of branches and reeds around them.
With the subdued conditions, I pre‑visualised a more creative interpretation in processing: a very low‑contrast, softly rendered image, where almost everything dissolves into a gentle haze, leaving only the two saplings with enough clarity to stand out from the waterlogged vegetation that surrounds them.
