Well I decided to buy the Sony 100-400mm GM…
My question is for anyone who is or has used teleconverters with that lens.. how does it stack up..
I have the 200-600mm but it can get heavy while walking and hiking so I’m wondering if the 100-400 with a TC 1.4x or 2x is a workaround. How is the image quality.

I have the 100-400GM and the 1.4x TC and the 200-600. The image quality with the 100-400+1.4x is in line with the 200-600G. The issue I have is with the combo is that the weight distribution is significantly changed and it somehow feels heavier than the 200-600 so really don't use it. In fact I think so little of using the 100-400+1.4 that even though I didn't take the 200-600 on a recent trip but brought the 100-400 I left the 1.4x at home.

I have the 100-400 and the 1.4x but never used the 1.4 with the 100-400 yet, but do not see why given enough light the 1.4 would be any worse than it is on the 200-600 I have and I rarely use it on that here in the UK given how few days we get that allow its use to be an advantage

Haven't use it with TC that much but the IQ is fine for me. These were with the 1.4TC attached.

I have the 1.4 TC, sitting in virtual shopping cart at B&H. I can’t make up my mind, so I am going follow this thread and see if that helps.
I would go for it, the added reach is well worth it and as I think you now know the 100-400 is really sharp anyway, and the 100-400 with converter is more manageable than the 200-600 as I know weight was an issue for you :)
