These are common birds in Australia.

In learning to live with a fast prime I've found that the enduring visible thing it gives you is more control over the background.

The shutter speed here was half my usual for a BiF because I'd been shooting it perched when it took off. The effect is to soften the plumage which I think works here.

Beautiful shot Ern! Definitely no issues with 1/1600 here that I can see. I always drop the shutter speed to as low as I can get away with for perched birds unless the light is fantastic. Of course you know they are going to take off at some point so registering a custom shoot set to bump the shutter speed up the moment that happens I find quite helpful. I have it assigned to the focus hold button on the lens as if you are using back button focus you'll be running out of fingers and thumbs!

Thanks for the tip Tim.
I have BIF settings assigned to AF-on and perched to AE-l and on this occasion didn't want to lose time moving between them.
