Massively cropped from shots in crop mode, but this White Tailed Lapwing is a mega rare visitor in the UK, only the 7th ever recorded, though he has been touring around the country since October it seems. I wish he was closer, but he was only 20 minutes from home so I can't complain. Mega life tick.

Congratulations Kev! Only 7 recordings is mega rare! You got some lovely shots too despite the heavy cropping. Good job you had the R4 🙂

That's a handsome bird. Good job Kev! Why are you so lucky? I'm thinking you are making your own luck!

Thanks Tim. Yes, that resolution comes into it's own at times. This bird has actually been touring the east coast since September. He was at Blacktoft Sands for 4 months, then moved down to Lincolnshire for a month and has just moved eastwards slowly. Hopefully he will stay here a bit longer and come closer, but I suspect he is finally making his way back to his home land (Southern Russia, Iran or Iraq). He obviously made a wrong turn on migration, they normally go to South Africa.

Thanks Jeff. Sometimes I do, yes, this one pretty much came to me. I read it was around, and it just happens to be 20 minutes from home. That said, the reserve made a new wetland last year, and so far it's really turning up some rarities for the UK, so it was a good move on their part.

Cracking set of a mega bird Kev
