Hi there, just popping in to introduce myself.
I have dabbled in photography for many years, and was very surprised to be gifted a Sony a7rv for a big '0' birthday recently!
Just trying to get my head around it after having had a Nikon for eons! He chose the 24-70mm F2.8 GMII lens to go with the camera.
I hope I can learn heaps from others as I work out the nuances of this camera...I feel a bit intimidated by all the bells and whistles!
I love to photograph landscapes and nature, especially fungi, mosses and wildflowers. I use these images as inspiration for my textile art and am also interested in fine art photography, again to incorporate into my textile art.
Thanks for having me here.

Welcome to the forum @Terri. Where abouts in Australia are you located? There are a few of us on here. I have an A7RV and 24-70mm F2.8 GMII also. If I can be of any assistance just let me know.

I'm new as well. Welcome aboard. What a gift you got! I also like shots of fungi, moss and such and look forward to seeing you grow with your new camera.

Hi Richard, nice to meet you. I'm on the Sunshine Coast, Qld.

Ok. One of my brothers lives in Gympie.

Welcome on board Terri, I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Hi Richard, nice to meet you. I'm on the Sunshine Coast, Qld.
There are a number of Australians on here.

Nice to start with an A7RV and a 24-70 GM II. That should get you started, but you might want to consider adding a macro lens later if you want to get up close with some fungi and flowers, but that can wait.

I agree that it’s not hard to feel overwhelmed by the vast array of options in the menus. There are several people who publish guides to each of the Sony cameras. I suggest looking at Mark Galer’s site - he’s not just good at explaining things, he’s also a local (well, in Victoria!).

Purely out of curiosity, which Nikon were you coming from? You aren’t the only person with experience with Nikon (or Canon, or …). I used a D800e then a D810, in the past.
