Sony A7R VI How does the autofocus compare - A7RVI vs A7V ?

Does anyone know if the autofocus on the A7RVI and A7V are the same system, software etc etc? Or know how they compare?

I have tested and reviewed both cameras and the autofocus performance is very similar. The A7RVI has some minor advantages as the Recognition Target can pick up subjects that are much smaller in the frame.

Many thanks for the reply, and funnily enough I came across your youtube channel late last night as I was about to head to bed, and am about to watch your review of the Sony A7RVI and how it compares to the A1II. Thirty years ago in the pre-digital days I used to teach underwater photography all over the world, and I have been convinced to really get back into underwater photography seriously as people know that I used to really push the boundaries of what was possible in underwater extreme macro. Besides that I have a project documenting a 2000 year old shipwreck that is of incredible historic importance - it is unique as it is the only intact wreck ever found from a very important part of historic maritime trade.

At the moment I am leaning towards the 7RVI. Time to watch your review!

I haven't tried the a7rvi yet, but I did try the a7v.
What I can say is that the 7v is the fastest and most accurate focusing system I've tried on Sony cameras.
I almost have to believe it is because of the new chip, which combines the AI focus chip into the "main" processor, or maybe just the AI focusing is better trained now.
Any of the cameras I've tried (a6700, a7rv, FX2, a7cr, rv10v) with a separate AI chip do seem to recognize the subject better than those without the AI focus chip, but still don't hold it as well as the a7v.
I haven't tried the a1(ii) so I can't compare that.

I use and will continue to use, unless the a7rvi is a viable upgrade, an a1(i), and I have very good results due to usage and familiarity

i would say night and difference for action it actually tracks close to my A1 but also it picks up my subject sooner ,there are test showing on you tube how good the af is ,ok it is not going to beat a a9iii but very close to a1,s even though it has only 60 fs af calculations quite impressive for a 66mp sensor my a1 gets put on the back burner in lots instances .
