Have the A7Riii (and the Olympus E-M1miii) and I really like using the C1-3 mode dial settings to change a lot of parameters, including AF modes and drive mode.
e.g. C1 is small focus area, AF-C, low speed burst
C2 is larger area focus, AF-C, medium/hi speed
C3 is like C2 but with AF-C-trk.
Looking at the A1 I was surprised to see physical dials for the Drive and Focus modes. This was inherited from the A9's.
I read that you can use a CUSTOM button to change those mode, but the button must be HELD the entire time?
Can the C1-C3 recall modes change these settings? (That might be a little confusing with the dial pointing at something else......)
