Best lens for Blue Angels

.Looking to buy a lens to use for Blue Angels. Anyone on here have any experience ?

My immediate reaction, without any experience photographing aircraft, would be to suggest the shiny new 100-400 f/4.5 - extremely fast AF, a useful range, support for both TCs, and comfortable to carry and use hand-held.

Warning: NOT CHEAP! But still much cheaper and wieldier than the big primes
