You know..... After looking at all of the other FREAKING AWESOME pics in this thread, I almost am embarrassed to post my meager excuses of pictures.

You have to start someplace. If it helps for most of us the one "good one" (subjective) we post there were probably a hundred others that are now no longer files.

I'm not positive I named it correctly, but I also photographed Striated Herons and they are distinctly different.

Both are Striated Heron the flying one is an adult and the pair are juvies.

Thanks. It's quite confusing. On eBird, there are photos of many birds that don't look at all alike and they all have the same name. Sure is a change if they go from the striped pattern in my image of the juveniles, to the nearly solid blue of my original image posted. Amazing. I thought it was this bird:

Yeah the Egret/Herons are all like that. That Little Blue Heron started out all white and it's bad when you get them and adult Snowy or Cattle in the area.

Not a great shot, but this was shot with the 400-800 at 715mm, f/8. 1/2000, ISO 250 on the A9 III.

Heavily overcast when I photographed them.

I thought it was just bin chickens (er, Australian White Ibis), but it's quite clear that although the bodies are white. the wings are dark. I think these must be Straw-necked Ibis (I guess the straw like feathers on their necks lie flat in flight).

Oh, I just noticed that we can see a few black feathers peeking above the tree in the shot above!

We had a day out at a Zoo in Cambridgeshire yesterday. It was absolutely Red Kite central though! Dozens flew around all day, coming very close at times (too close for 400mm!) A shame the light or skies were a bit crap.

I do not get along with them at Bombay. They will always be too far away till I'm in the car driving between stop then they'll fly right next to the car until I stop and then they are instantly behind trees.

Yes, my experience also. WE got lucky in that the wind was out of the NNE blowing at about 11 mph. We came upon the bird at beginning of Shearness Pool. It was working its way North into the wind dipping down into the reeds, so we were able to obtain some good photos.

Wish I would have been able to get these two when they were closer and over the river but way too many trees in the way. This is a late to migrate Osprey being chased by a late 5th year Bald Eagle. It did appear that the Osprey was able to get away with its meal. This is a good shot just to see the size comparison between the bird types.

This is a Northern Flicker a bird that I will eventually get a photo of one landing towards me with the sun behind me. This is probably one of the more beautiful in-flight birds.

A White Faced Heron who flew over my head without warning (I would like warning in writing, thank you very much!)

Shot at f/2 1/26000 ISO 250 at 150mm on the 50-150 GM and the A9 III.

The image is at 100% - the bird was high enough that I had to crop to 2000 x 1800 from 6000x4000.

It was blazing sunshine, hence the 1/26000.
