I haven't been to visit the White Rock Pier in years, so this morning, I went down to take a look and stroll around like a tourist.
1,542 feet, 470 meters

Like I said, "like a tourist," complete with two cameras.

Tis a mere stroll compared to our Southend Pier which is 1 mile long. However, I'd rather walk yours, Southend is a tip :D

Very Nice shots ST , not sure about the message, if any, with the young lady and the fishing and crabbing lines poster...(y) :ROFLMAO:
Hi, Ray.
Thanks for noticing - that was a setup for the shot of the crabs in the trap that I forgot to include in the first batch of photos. It was also to highlight crab trapping is pretty much a part of the culture of this fully functional pier.

Now II understand....a very positive community initiative..well done

Three years later, I headed down to White Rock PIer for another look at 4:30 a.m. Sunrise was at 5:12 so I wanted to get ahead of that. This was at high tide.

This is looking back from the end of the pier. "Canada's Longest Pier" (it's not really, but they like to say so. 470 metres)
Interesting to see the buildings "above" the lights on the promenade. These are 15-20 metres above, probably 50-75 metres behind the "Canada's Longest Pier" sign.

Most of these were taken with the 300 mm f/2.8 + 2x teleconverter

It was a little chilly so I marched up and down the promenade to warm up while I was waiting for interesting things to photograph.
This is from the shore, looking toward the far end of the pier. Notice the two people sitting on the bench at the far end.

They were having a great time laughing away in their pajamas. This was taken from the same vantage point (on the shoreline, 470 metres away and cropped deeply). At that distance "the atmosphere is the lens". But even at that distance you can still read the story.

Lots of people as the sun came up. The guy in red reminds me of the star of a big comedy show in the 90s.

Tiny crabs about a metre underwater, taken by holding the camera out over the water (2 metres below) and using the flip screen to aim.

And now the usual wildlife shots. These were taken from the pier around 8:00 a.m. high about the water (tide had receded), backlight by the rising sun.
