Collected my A7RVI this afternoon.

  • Battery arrived with 11% charge - it’s charging now. Spare batteries are back ordered.
  • The viewfinder eye cup appears to be an EP19 - the spare EP21 I ordered fits perfectly, but there isn’t one in the box.
  • It appears to be true - the camera does NOT support RAW-M (full frame) or RAW-S (full frame or APS-C) - that’s a surprise, but I have never used them, so I don’t miss them ;)
  • Battery does appear to be charging quickly
  • The strap attachment rings are unchanged - I’m replacing them with Peak Design “oval” rings, giving a better fit for PD anchors. If you want them, the cheapest option is to buy a pack of four PD anchors - they are about $20 and the oval rings are in the pack. I like the all-black anchors.
Further discoveries wait on the charging of the battery

Another observation: I bought a SmallRig plate for my A7RV to give my little finger a place to rest. Don't need that on the A7RVI - it's only a little taller, but it's enough.

Finally managed to take the camera out to take some shots at the zoo:

This was shot at f/2.8, 1/2000, ISO 250 under a somewhat cloudy sky using the 300/2.8 GM on the A7RVI. Mechanical shutter (which is reasonably quiet).

RAW file is 79MB

9984 x 6656 (so close to being 9990 x 6660) cropped to 4712 x 3189 for framing, then scaled to 2048 wide for this site. No adjustments.

This one was shot at ISO 3200, no noise reduction, small boost to shadows. Again cropped to 4738 x 2948 before being scaled to 2048 wide.

Expecting to take a lot more photos on the weekend (it's a long weekend in most of Australia).
