I'm 77 years young and bought my first camera, an Olympus OM1, on the birth of my son way back in ’78.

I quickly learned to love photography, burning through Kodak film at a rate of knots.

Starting a typesetting business put paid to my hobby, save for holidays, when film consumption resumed.

My first foray into the digital world was with a Canon 300D, but I just couldn’t live with the comparatively poor resolution and inability (at that time) to run slide projections, with which to boor my family!

My first Sony was a compact, which I fell in love with - eventually adding an RX10ii which blew my socks off.

I hankered after a Sony full-frame but just couldn’t justify the expense - then I realised I was getting – in reality – was, old – and ‘there are no pockets in shrouds’.

So around two months ago I bought an A7CR along with a 24-70mm 2.8 GSMII lens.

I thought the RX was a complex beast but wasn’t quite prepared for the A7’s menu system.

However, I got there in the end (I think) – and you know what – I just love it.

I suppose you could call me an enthusiastic amateur. I want to seize every opportunity to take photos and improve, improve, improve.

I went along to a local photo exhibition recently and realised I had a long, long way to go – having said that the images I saw were picture perfect, but to me lacked emotion.

I’ve realised that what floats my boat isn’t doing my usual of shooting travel scenes that millions have taken before me. It’s attempting to have emotion in my images – so I look for unusual people, dramatic, quirky, dark scenes.

I’ll post a recent image taken in Budapest – I’m open to criticism - but remember – I may be 77 but in reality I'm a kid with little experience!

Welcome Granville !
Like you, I'm from the Cheshire area and an enthusiastic amateur of a similar age (or vintage).
I've had, over the years, a number of mirrorless cameras but only from Sony and currently have a A7cii for street/urban and a7iv for everything else. My lenses are conventional, 16-35 GM, 28-75 Tamron, rarely used 70-200 f4 first series (prefer the internal focus internal zoom), 40mm f2.5 G which lives on the a7cii, 25mm f2 Batis, 85mm f1.8 Batis and an old adapted Helios 58mm f2
Where we both live leaves us spoil for choice for locations for any genre of photography.
I'm forever seeking to improve and get out with fellow like-minded amateurs a minimum of twice a week and each day there is a lesson to be learnt
