I have a Sony A1 with firmware version 1.0. To add insult to injury, I only have Apple computers.

Are there simple, step-by-step instructions for upgrading my camera to the latest firmware?

It's a huge headache on Mac. But if you can get to 2.01 or later you can then install updates via memory card which is more or less painless.

If you have a friend with a Windows computer it will be easier than using a Mac.

You basically need to get to 1.35 first, then 2.01. These can only be updated via USB cable, preferably the one that came with your A1.

Both 1.35 and 2.01 are included in a single download but are separate updates:

The install instructions there are pretty comprehensive and I'd definitely recommend reading them.

You will probably need to install the Sony Camera Driver as well:

Once you are on 2.01 you can now update to 4.0 via memory card:

Sometimes the update can be painfully slow as well, like taking up to 30 minutes.

When I tried this not too long ago I couldn't get it to work on my M1 Macbook Pro, but it worked fine on an old Intel iMac.

Good luck :)

I also have an Apple computer, but I updated my A1ii from version 1 using my mobile phone with the Sony Creators App. which I assume would also work on the Mk 1.

Unfortunately the A1 needs to be on 2.01 before you can update firmware via the Creators App or Memory Card.
