…what do we think the prospect of retrospective focus bracketing being made available in software updates for A7IV and A7III bodies? That’s one feature I do miss from lumix days albeit theirs was a video from which (low res) images could be extracted.

If its not the current line-up, don't expect a software update. That rules out the A7III. Heck it even seems like Sony's [sparse] updates are only made within 6 months of releasing the camera, then they move on. Not an evidence-backed claim, just feels like it.

Sony is not known for many upgrades via firmware. They do some but like Chris said, once the camera is no longer the latest and greatest in its lineup, forget it. Sony also has a habit of crippling lower priced models to reserve features for the more expensive ones.
