I keep getting a red dot on the screen of my Sony A7IV camera.
I’ve reset the settings a few times (I made a backup of my settings before and reloaded them), but the red dot keeps coming back.

I think it has something to do with quickly switching to video mode, but I have no idea what I’m doing to trigger it. I don’t shoot video, so it’s quite annoying for me.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it or disable it in the settings?

I saw a lot of views but no solutions (and it's okay I understand), so I figured: ask ChatGPT

Bullseye!

Making the red dot disappear completely

Since you do not use this feature, it is best to disable the touch function icons on the side without turning off the touchscreen functionality itself (such as for focusing).

On your A7 IV, go to:

MENU → Setup → Touch Operation → Touch Panel Settings → Shooting Screen

There, set the following:

Swipe Right → Off

Swipe Left → Off

This prevents the row of icons—including the red video recording button—from appearing when you accidentally swipe across the screen. Sony notes that these icons are triggered by a left or right swipe gesture.
