Birds Snow Bunting

I actually managed to get out for the first time in 2026 yesterday. Just a local wander to the beach in search of known Shorties. They were there, but a big surprise was a flock of 20 or so Snow Buntings turning up. Fantastic little birds, a winter migrant in my part of the UK.

We get them here and they are not shy. The first time I came across them I almost stepped on one. The beach I was on had a lot of broken shells under foot.

No generally very tame birds.

Lovely colours these birds have which you have highlighted very well. My nearest place to see them is Bempton cliffs but the weather recently has been dire, perhaps I'm been to fussy. Shorties seen recently too so that's an incentive to get out there.
