As part of my on-going rationalisation of my pre-order of the 300 GM I spent some time shooting with the 70-200 GM II with the 1.4x and the lens at 200mm - so 280mm effective. This image was shot with the lens wide open, auto-ISO at 500, 1/2000, f/4. On an A1 in e-shutter. I have not cropped the image, so the 300 GM would have a slightly smaller field of view.
This is a male Eclectus parrot - they are quite brightly coloured, and the tips of their tail feathers are bright. This is not a great shot, but I think it shows that the 300 GM will work quite well for me in similar circumstances. So obviously I should get it
