  1. Yes
At the place where I got the last Wedge-tailed Eagle shots I got this Wombat.
The daughter of the owner of this one went into the enclosure and even though it was wet and muddy she petted this like you would a dog.
And the Wombat even rolled on to it's back to get it's belly scratched.
Really it is more like a muscle bound dog as it followed her all around.
But never hit one with your car as the car will come out wrecked.
There are 3 different types of these and this is one the other is a Northern Hairy-nose Wombat and the Common Wombat.

I'm glad I read your text otherwise I'd feel sorry for the little bugger in an enclosed, muddy, pen. Interesting though, I've never seen one.

I am not sure on the full story on each bird and animal there but they have been rescued or the old owner could no longer care for them.
So they take them in no questions asked and give them a life which is better than being thrown out bush to starve.
But these are just solid muscle and if hit by a car while driving yes you might kill the little bugger but it will make your car worthless.
I myself have only seen these in enclosures like this and never in the wild which I would love to do one day.
