Tamron has announced a new 16-50mm APSC lens:
tamron-americas.com
Its 305g, 16-50mm, constant f/2.8, filter size 55mm.
Wait, haven't we been here before? Sort of.
The Sony APSC kit lens is 16-50, but variable aperture.
The Sony 16-55mm f2.8 G lens is the closest competitor to this lens.
Sigma also has an 18-50mm f/2.8 lens, which features similar design cues and size.
Tamron's previous "best" fast zoom lens was the 17-70mm f/2.8. I had this lens and loved it, a great jack of all trades lens, but it was chunky and truly felt like a full frame lens when mounted on an APSC body. So it looks like Tamron copied the competitors, cut down on the zoom range while putting their previous lens on a diet and came up with this new 16-50 to fit into an already crowded market. I like it, but kind of wish they didn't have to lose the vibration compensation in this bulk-cutting exercise.
