News The new Sony 100mm macro

My lens showed up yesterday and I really didn't get much time to play with it but did the basics to make sure that it was generally working as expected. From that I have a couple things of note:
1. As expected it is much faster focusing than the 90mm G
2. Focuses in lower light much better than the 90mm G - wasn't expecting this. I would get the purple box on objects with the 90mm but green with the 100GM at the same settings. Thought maybe it was just because I was using the A1 but happened with the A1ii as well.
3. The full-time DMF doesn't work the way I expected it too. I was expecting it to automatically bring up the focusing zoom box when I rotated the focusing ring. This could be a setting change that needs to be made.
Did decide to order a skin for the lens, going with Shadow Blossum

Re: 3. I have full time DMF turned on in the A1 II, so I haven’t tried the switch on the lens. I’d expect it to do the focus zoom - I’ll see if it does, maybe this weekend.

Tired all the combinations of DMF always-on from lens, in menu and dial and if you rotate the focus ring the zoom doesn't activate. If you use the dial focus and then rotate the ring like you do with any other lens and the zoom activates. The way they set this up kind of makes the full-time DMF on the lens not useful.
