Sony A7R VI What is a FE mount? (as opposed to an E mount)

The a7RVI uses E mount - but I've come across an interesting 3rd party lens that is FE mount - I've no idea what FE mount is so can someone help me by telling me if it will fit and work on an E mount?

The FE refers to an E-mount lens that is designed for full frame cameras. You will see Sony brand lenses using the FE as well.

To finish GvilleRick the ones that are model names that are E are designed for APS-C models. So
E 16–55mm F2.8 = APS-C lens
FE 16-35mm F2.8 = Full Frame

When you see a 3rd party use the term "Sony E" like the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens for Sony E this is an APS-C lens but the Tamron 28-300mm f/4-7.1 Di III VC VXD Lens (Sony E) is a Full Frame lens. This is because they are just telling you the mount system as they may have the same lens available in other mount systems.

For Sony all the cameras use the E mount system so APS-C cameras can use Full Frame lenses and Full Frame cameras can use APS-C lenses though only half the sensor will be used.
