Hi, I'm Matt from Malta.

35 year old IT professional trying to start a "passive" photography income for the Nth time.

I've been using my A7iii since 2019 after graduating from the Canon 6D. I mainly shoot landscapes, astro-landscapes and time-lapse. I also dabble in deep space astro (beginner Messier targets) as well as some macro and real and real estate. One might say I'm pretty well versed with photographing non-human subjects..

Currently considering converting the A7 III to full spectrum and replacing it with the A7C II, but that all depends on how much photography income I manage to make.

Hi Matt, welcome to the group. I’m very much looking forward to seeing some of your photographs. I have similar interests, so I’m keen to see your Malta landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes. As you have great ‘seeing’ conditions in Malta, your Astro shots will also be interesting. Wishing you clear skies.

Welcome! I visited Malta a few years ago for a work meeting, wonderful place, such history! I also got a dive but didn’t travel with all my gear and camera since it was a short work trip with only one opportunity to dive. I had an amazing encounter with a very large seahorse. Of course no camera…

The seeing is alright most of the time but light pollution keeps increasing year after year which limits broadband astro to only the west side of the island. Clear skies!

What about Gozo. I was thinking of staying there for a week on holiday and taking some Astro shots?

Similar story there as well. If you're intending on doing any wide-angle milkyway stuff its much easier towards the west of the islands; at least it's also where the nicer parts of the countryside are as well.

In Malta it's easier to Park in Migra l-Ferha and then hike north to Blata tal-Melh or south to Ras Id-Dawwara (both hikes are about 2hrs round-trip with some compositions along the way). In Gozo it's best around Dwejra Bay

Long lens Sun / Moon alignments are also a good option with with all the churches we have scattered around the islands you are bound to get something on your dates.

Great shots, really very nice. I’m surprised by the light pollution in Malta and especially Gozo. What is the scale of the bortle map you have shown?
