Struggle with heat haze, 88 degrees in the desert still, I was a few days early before a cold front. White faced ibis feeding in a field being flooded for agriculture

Great picture, but hope you don't mind me asking why is the iso so high. I've recently started manually putting in iso having used auto, just wondering what people's thoughts are.

No problem! I was about 8 feet away from the eagle - so very close. It was also a cloudy day which is needed for these birds as they are active midday and the light is too harsh on clear days.

They cruise really fast actually at such close distances so their angular speed through the viewfinder is really fast. You need a minimum of 1/1600s to get sharp shots and even that isn't usually enough and I prefer being at 1/2500 - 1/3200s to ensure I don't miss any action. Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying, yes it's always interesting to see and learn other photographers thoughts and settings. I know we all have our own and certainly we're learning all the time. Eight feet away that's amazing nature is so rewarding.

A Common Buzzard banking around at Strumpshaw Fen. Nice to see the full wingspan in use.

Nice job Phil I love owls but never see them when I have a camera in my hands :)

When out to Conowingo Dam on turkey day. Between the estimated 150 Baldies and the nice weather it should have been a great day but the eagles decided it was a holiday and mostly took the morning off.

Thanks.
They are in this spot mostly fall through winter and I have seen 10 in the air at one time...just amazing!
