Yes it's always painful listening to someone justify their herd mentality. Could just say 'I seen five birds I haven't seen before', and all parties would know exactly what it means.

The other week we were searching through these shrubs for wrens when a lady walked past and said 'oh you must be twitchers'. No we're just people who like looking at and taking photos of birds, no need to associate us with anything other than that...

Well in all fairness, were you twitching when she asked? I mean, if you were twitching then the question makes sense.

Well seeming that twitching is just a sudden or convulsive movement, no we were just looking at birds. I definitely would not have looked like I may need an ambulance...

Had a chance to go to a place called "Flamingo Gardens" this weekend and got many birds that should fit into this themed thread quite nicely.

First up: Black-crowned Night Heron

I know birding and birding photography in Florida is basically set on easy mode but those shots with a 35mm is cheat mode.

You hit the nail on the head. The birds are so tame here, I basically crept up to them, and had less than 5 yards between my furthest subject and myself.

Despite that, I have even more respect for bird photographers after this little experiment. I had so many throw away pictures even with tame birds and a prime lens! Of course, a major part of that is that my lack of experience, but I found autofocus kind of useless half the time and so did a lot of manual focusing. Next time I'm also bringing a zoom lens with me.
