If it's a burmese, it's a baby!

My old roommate and I had a zoo in the old days, he had a huge fish tank and I had reptiles, lizards and snakes. the only larger ones were a 3-4' Boa constrictor and a 12' Reticulated python. the Boa was nice the retic not so much, she was beautiful but tough to handle. When I got married I was down to just a corn snake, which was son living in the zoo.

We currently have a red footed tortoise that's grown to about 8" across, a fat tailed gecko, and a ball python. The snake is a big girl by ball python standards at just over 4'. She's extremely gentle.

Oh yeah, and a cat and a dog.

Reticulated pythons are a$$holes.

Reticulated pythons are a$$holes.
True, I could barely get the rat in the cage, the retic would strike as it dropped in the cage. Still they are among the most beautiful, with their iridescent scales but i would never recommend one to keep at home. My Boa on the other hand would do the normal snake thing and hang in the branch waiting for the mouse to cross in front. Because of that behavior she taught me a lesson in humility. I had for years thought I was smart and quick enough with my reptiles but one day she was letting the mouse hang out too long. One never wants to leave a live rodent in the cage with a snake that does not want to eat so that the rodent does not bite the snake. Well I made the foolish decision to help her find the mouse by putting my hand in the cage to encourage the mouse to run in front of her, before I knew it, i saw and felt her release my hand with a lot of little holes dripping blood. She thought my hand was the mouse but realizing the mistake she made let go before I even knew I had been bitten. It never happened again but I finally understood I was not that fast.

One other foolish idea of mine was after my wife moved in we discovered we had some cockroaches, so I came up with the brilliant idea of getting rid of them in a natural way. I bought maybe 6 geckos and let them loose in the house. The plan worked well for maybe a week the roach population went down but the geckos got bored and moved on. So the wife one and we called an exterminator, which solved the problem forever.

Now all we have is a 24 year old male African Grey since he was a hatchling, and two red tri aussies and rat dog mix we inherited when my mother passed away.

Thanks to everyone who has joined in with this thread so far, as expected some great shots included. Not had much chance to go back through mine yet, but getting some together, including this one from Richmond Park 8 years ago. He is the most magnificent Stag in the park. This would have been taken on a Sigma 120-400.

India 2018. These were taken with a Canon G5X, considering it fits in a shirt pocket, It's quite a thing. Smog was often an issue, colours in India are so vibrant, but often unseen because of it.

I'll come right out and say that the kids in the back of the tuk tuk, is probably the best photo I've ever taken.

We eat Indian food, three meals a day. I usually last around 6 days before I succumb.

Three from different trips to Africa for work, two on film one with a canon.
First one here was of a young actor, great kid, shot on the banks of the Mara river, Kenya. Getting this location ready led to one of the scariest moments in my life. after getting everything set up and leaving my assistant to watch over the gear, I walked back to the trailers checking on my actors, a distance of maybe a 1,000 meters. As I walked back, along the trail there was a a very large bush on my left, i noticed some movement behind the bush. A second later a very large hippo came out from behind the bush, he was so big and no more than 20 ft from me. Luckily he was a scared of me as I was of him and we both ran off in opposite directions, took a bit for my heart to calm down. After that we got the shot of our two leads in a very uneventful way. I was here to shoot the ADs for the film "Forbidden Territory: Stanley's Search for Livingstone", the amazing thing about this project besides the fact we were really in the middle of the Masi Mara, this was one of the few projects i worked on where we shot in a location close to where the story took place. This was shot on Fuji transparency film with a Mamiya RZ 67
76 African Boy.jpg

This shot was in a "Beer Hut" in a township out side of Cape Town. During the migration from rural life to the cities during apartheid women could not rally work so some setup these "Beer Huts" to make some income. The price was for the day not the glass and it is very much home made. They were happily surprised that unlike most tourists we said yes to the beer. This was shot on Tri-x film pushed a stop with my Contax camera. The wacky thing about this trip is that I was there to shoot ads for "Home alone 4"
beer woman and child print.jpg

This image was shot in the market at the Jemaa el Fna Square, Marrakech, Morocco, amazing place and maze of things. I was in Ouarzazate, Morocco to shoot ads for "Jesus and Judas". The studio in Ouarzazate is amazing, they leave all the sets they build out in the desert to be either reused or as tourist attractions. Image was shot with a Canon 1Ds MK II

One absolutely magnificent Stag at Bushy Park 5 years ago. We stood behind a tree 30 yards away while he threw water and weeds around. Staggeringly, some kids were trying to pat him on the back in the middle of it all. I was hoping for some prize winning gore shots... Sadly not to be (some people are idiots). Galapagos, also 2018. Hard to know where to stop with this one, there is just so much to see.

The parasitic volcano was taken on the deck of a boat from 1.5km away, you could feel the heat.

Superb Dave

An early Kingfisher shot, taken at Warnham Nature Reserve, one of the very best reserves in the UK for these birds. This is from when I just used to save JPEGS, so no Exif, but it was taken on a Pentax K3 and Pentax 150- 450 if memory serves.
