While most local crab fishers rely on traditional basket traps, this setup uses a unique snare-line technique brought over from abroad. I caught moment the crab—and its web of snare lines—is hauled from the water. A fascinating look at how fishing methods evolve in different places. The trap is tiny compared to basket traps, and the fisher casts it like a fishing lure with a fishing rod.

I looked it up, and its forbidden to use snare traps in our local waters. South coast of British Columbia. (Crescent Beach, BC)
That would explain why I've never seen one of these rigs before.

I've been having a ball with the 300 mm f/2.8 GM, but there's nothing wrong with the 70-200 GM II.

That's interesting, never seen that method before. Where abouts was this?

The 70-200mm is an awesome lens. I packed mine yesterday for an upcoming trip. I couldn't believe how light it is for an f2.8. I don't use it that often, but always enjoy it.
