After many years as a Pentax shooter, I have decided to pare down my kit and move to mirrorless. I pulled the trigger yesterday and purchased a Sony A7R V and the 200-600mm lens along with an adapter to attach some of my Pentax lenses. I retired from teaching mathematics in June and have enjoyed visiting a local nature preserve to shoot birds and other wildlife. Most of my shooting with my Pentax gear was event and sports oriented as I was the Webmaster of the school for 15 years and shot concerts, drama events, and a wide variety of sporting events, both inside and outside.

I have enjoyed looking at the images posted here and look forward to sharing shots as well. I narrowed down my search between the Canon R5 and Sony a7R V and ultimately the resolution, AI focus options, and lens selection led my to this choice.

Welcome to the Forum, Rick.

Welcome to the forum Rick. Both the Canon R5 and the Sony a7R V are fantastic cameras, I'm fortunate to own both. But Sony definitely wins on the lens selection right now and the 200-600 is really hard to beat.

Thank you. I have been happy with the Sony so far. The Sony 70-200 is great for sports and the 200-600 is a great lens as well.
