  1. Yes
Mananged an afternoon out at the local owl hotspot yesterday. The shorties showed fairly well, though they were hiding well too, the one in the grass here appeared like Houdini! Big crops on those shots.

Cracking owl shots ,could watch these beautiful birds all day long .

Thanks Mike. They are the most graceful of birds. Love them.

Just a question for you ,do you find shooting auto iso especially on barn owls , that the image often appears to be under exposed .

No, not especially, I haven't had to adjust exposure much on these, so it's pretty accurate on metering, it's something I have always championed about the RIV. The other thing is that have the live view adjustments showing in the viewfinder makes me more vigilant anyway. I guess that having used the camera for so long now helps too.

That's true I've only recently started to look in the live view viewfinder ,and adjusting as required with the ev dial .

Stunning image Kev! I really need to find me an owl to shoot over here :)

Cheers Tim. You do, not long before they make their way home, though some do stay.

I've found it invaluable, and the EV dial is so easy to adjust on the fly.

Beautiful owls!

Tangential, if not off topic... Do you do this handheld? I held a friend's new 200-600, on my a7iv, the other day. I could hardly keep it still. The weight made my hands shake. Mind you, I am a no-muscle wimp.

Yes handheld always. Monopods and tripods are too restrictive for me. A friend's wife (Unframed Dave's) does have an interesting monopod head that I want to test though, if I can ever find it in a store, or online, it's basically a large ball on a head, that a cup rests on, so it can be instantly lifted off if necessary. That I like the idea of. Must ask Dave when he I see him next.
