When we moved house last year one of the perks of our new location was a motocross track visible from our garden and just a 15 minute walk away. I had a little Kawasaki KX80 when I was a kid just for blasting about the farm, so I've always enjoyed the sport. Life was rather busy last year so I never actually made it to the track but I finally got there this week and had a great time. I need to spend some more time there to figure out the best angles to shoot from but I'm relatively happy with the shots from my first visit. The Sony a1 combined with the 70-200 F2.8 GM II made it far too easy to nail the action. Out of around 2500 images only a handful were out of focus and that was down to user error! :) All images are SOOC JPEGS.

Really good photos Tim!

That combo works well for a lot of sports. Great shots, the second one from the bottom is what I would have aimed for with the wheels still in motion but the rider and bike sharp.

Beautiful pictures, well done !

Nice set Tim 👍

Cheers Iain. I only played around with the slower panning shots a little since I didn’t want to get home to find them all out of focus! I don’t mind freezing the action for the jumps so much and quite like to see the detail in the spokes and background if it’s interesting. But when the wheels are on the ground it’s nice to see some motion blur. I definitely need to work on my panning skills.

It comes with practice.

Looks like a lot of fun. All great and I like the slower shutter speed ones best.
