Hi All:

I have not been able to find this anywhere. Does anyone know if the A1ii can capture video prior to pressing the record button?

Thank you in advance.

Don

As far as I know, precapture only applies to still images, not to video.

I tried to look for it, and it looks like AI has gotten confused on the subject. I will be interested to hear if I am wrong on this.

It only applies to still photography, according to my guide.

Hi AW: I believe that is correct that the A1ii does not support pre-recording of video. Only the FX6 does that. Which brings up the point that Google AI is almost valueless. It confuses video pre-recording with still pre-capture. Google AI also makes the claim that the both Nikon and Olympus have video pre-recording--they do not. The only mirrorless that I know of that includes pre-recording of video is the R5ii. Canon calls this feature "pre-roll". Too bad I do not like Canon's telephoto zoom lenses. All are externally zooming. However, if Canon releases an internally zooming RF 300-600 I may reconsider provided the price is less than $7,500.

I would not call Google AI valueless. It’s more a case of “ask, but verify”, just as you have.

I did not bother watching the YouTube video that the AI found, but I suspect that it might have been misinterpreted by the AI.

I get it. I put intentionally put in the words "pre-roll", "pre-cache" received positive responses for Sony, Nikon and Olympus. None of these cameras have caching of video before pressing the record button. Oddly enough, Canon which does cache video prior to fully pressing record, did not come up. But Google AI frequently comes up with the wrong answer or mis-interprets the question being asked. I would like to just turn Google AI off.

As you can tell, I am not big of AI. In fact, I believe things being called AI are not really artificial intelligence at all. For example, I hear these advertisements for various business AI applications. They just sound like regular queries. Nothing artificially intelligent about that! If you knew how to write the query, then you could get the same information. Similarly, BlackMagic Design has put AI on just about everything. Here's another example. You can make a voice print of let's say "John Wayne". Then, convert your voice to sound like "John Wayne". But it will never include the intonations and mannerisms of "John Wayne". This is also not artificial intelligence, just clever programming with faster and faster computers. Or, as we said when back when I was in high school in the 70s that computers were nothing more than high speed idiots. Currently, Artificial Intelligence is just some new marketing term.

Artificial intelligence will become true artificial intelligence when it can emulate a human brain and come up with something new and creative on it's own without the interaction of humans.
