Sony A7R V Version 4 Firmware Is Now Available

Indeed already downloaded. On the rear screen now are I think the FN icons permanently, they are quite useful when I have the rear screen open. I usually have the screen turned in on itself and ignore it a lot of the time.

So when I do open the screen, sometimes this is useful to have those icons and sometimes NOT. Is it possible to change this?

Try pressing the display button.

I normally shoot with the screen closed also.

I think us “mature” photographers tend to shoot with the view finder, harkening back to our film days. I’v noticed many younger folks using the full screen.

After the debacle with the A7IV update recently I haven't heard of any problems with the A7RV but I'll probably wait another week before I upgrade.

I did the update yesterday, and the UK site was having issues according to the site it`s self and the number of times the download failed to download properly for me! I do worry when doing version updates from Sony, I have a couple of lens updates to do now the 200-600 and the 100-400

Having recently come back to Sony gear, I have to say their registration process is the worst I ever came up against. It is also not good to see other people 'worry about doing updates with Sony'. I complained to SOny about registration and their answer was virtually go find a Windows computer, to which I replied I left that years ago. So writing to them was a waste of time. In the end I 'discovered' registering can be done easily on an iPad or iPhone - but not on my Mac.

I don’t really get where you’re coming from here regarding the “registration process”.

Not sure what you mean by registration process, I go to https://productregistration.sony.com/login whenever I add a product. It's web-based, so I would imagine it works from either Mac or Windows. I set up a login and found it convenient to keep all my Sony equipment's serial numbers and information here. It's also conveniently linked to https://alphauniverse.com/ , so you can access it directly or from your Alpha Universe home page.

I was disappointed to hear about the firmware update; fortunately, it did not impact me. However, I have had Sony cameras going back to 2018 with multiple updates without a hitch. I hope that it's a one-off situation and does not become the norm. I guess we'll have to wait and see on that.

Ah but that is the US page, which looks a whole lot better. I register with mysony.ch and that is where I find it a pain. One has to enter the reg details twice before done. I log in mysony.ch, and of course some of my details are already in that login, but you still have to enter your name and address twice etc. It is a frustration the whole process to do basically what you do.

No problems here...

Oh, I see your point. Hope they get this right for the OUS folks. I didn’t realize there were different sites OUS.

On a personal note, I lived and worked in Basel for a while 10+ years ago and absolutely loved it!

Basel is the other end from us, but I do like Basel town centre away from all the chemical etc businesses.

Yes the town is very nice, we lived right off of Barfusserplatz. Very convenient to the airport for weekend trips on Easy Jet. My wife and I swam in the river (floated down the river) all the time, a great Basel tradition. I had worked at Novartis as a second career after failing retirement the first time.

Got some nice camera shops too! I worked for Roche but not in Basel. Was one time in the Roche Tower Basel by the river and been on a river cruise starting from Basel.
