Hi,

I ordered extension tubes set to use it for my Sonat A7R so i can get closer with the lens 55mm i have, the problem is the camera can't control the aperture at all, it is always at maximum or so narrow aperture [maybe f18 or f22 of the lens], and that will make the exposure so difficult, so is there a way i can control the aperture using the extension tube?

To answer this can you provide the make and model of the extension tube and lens.
I don't know the model name of extension tubes, it is from Fotodoix, the set is coming with 7mm, 14mm and 28mm tubes including the lens and camera mount adapters.

The lens is the kit lens with the camera, Sony Sonnar FE 55mm f/1.8 T [CZ].

Unfortunately you can't control the lens with these extension rings, additionally the lens has no external aperture control.

I suggest you return the macro extension tubes and buy this set as a replacement _ https://fotodioxpro.com/products/sne-mcr-af?_pos=2&_fid=e67474675&_ss=c

The extra $30 approx. will allow you to keep the camera and lens connected and controllable.

Using the set suggested will provide you with a maximum magnification increase from 0.14 to 0.49 with a minimum focus distance of 250mm.

Angus.

I was so stupid that i should read the reviews which someone said it can't control the aperture, i thought it was only one or two persons bad luck maybe.

Well, returning isn't possible, even if i do i think i won't gain much as refund if they accept it anyway, it was super duper cheap i bought anyway so it is not a big loss, i can buy the one you mentioned or linked without returning back the one i bought, i think i will buy a powerful light so i can get good exposure at max aperture then it will be just fine, manual focus isn't a problem for me, i only complain about aperture changing, not focusing type.

Thank you very much for your excellent reply.

Actually, the main or most important question i should ask is: Why the camera change the aperture to max when i turn off the camera? Why doesn't it keep it at any value it was before turning off?

Without power and communication from the camera body, the lens defaults to wide open (f/1.8), and there's no way to stop it down using the lens or tubes.

I wish if the default is wide open, as i mentioned, if i turn of the camera to mount the extensions the lens is by default going to max aperture and stay like that, the only way that now i keep using is i use native settings and set the camera to whatever aperture i want then un-mount the lens while the camera is on and i install the extension tube then i re-mount the lens and it stays as it is, i can keep doing this for a while, but i think now i have to buy another lens wider FOV and can have less minimum focusing distance, i have two options in mind.

Thank you
