I am considering purchasing an FE 200-600 along with a 95mm NISI VND 1-5 stop filter. Is there enough room inside the lens hood to to first install the lens hood and then install the VND? I recognize that the handle on the VND would need to be removed. I know that the OD of the VND is greater than lens filter size. This is the case for most VNDs.
I ask because this is what I do with my XF 150-600. First install the lens hood, then install the NISI VND. I do this because lens hood will not fit over VND--the OD of the VND is larger than the lens filter size. In any case, to set the VND, I reach my hand through the lens hood and make an initial coarse adjustment of the VND. I then make final exposure adjustments in terms of aperture and ISO without ever again changing the initial setting on the VND. This has worked works well for me.
Before you ask why not just get a different hood, I prefer not to do this. Why? Factory hoods will fall off if bumped being something off a shock absorber for the lens. Screw on lens hoods if bumped, do not come off and may damage the filter and the lens.
