Question about Sony Resellers Policy

I have purchased many (too many?) lenses from Sony over the past 12 months. Except for one, all were in unsealed 'Sony' boxes. No tape, no glue, nothing but a cardboard tab to secure the lid. Same with all the Nikon & Canon products.

My Question: Does Sony have a policy that does or does not allow an authorized reseller to seal the boxes?

In the past, the only sealed boxes I have received have been for pre-ordered bodies (not for lenses, as I recall it).

I wondered if that was so no one in the shop would take the camera out for a quick try-out before delivering it to the customer.

For lenses, the box has arrived with the pullout tab looking like it had never been pulled out (I don’t know how the factory gets the lens in the box - my guess is using a Star Trek transporter…)

My 100mm GM had a seal on it that stated there would be a restocking fee for it being returned.

All of my Sony lenses came in the box without any seal tape. That said, just based on how well the lenses were packed, it did not appear that they had ever been removed from the box, but that is just supposition. On the other hand, there was a clear disc of sealing tape on the a1ii box that I purchased in September. Again, it did not appear that the camera was ever removed. I ordered it from B&H so I don’t know if the seal was from Sony or some type of inventory control from B&H.

None of mine were sealed, either, which I thought was odd.

Sounds like that was applied by the seller, rather than Sony.

I just checked the box of my 100mm Macro GM, and there is no sign it ever had a seal on it.
