I use USB battery packs through USB port. You can plug or unplug at will and it charges your battery when camera is off.

I'm more looking for a solution that will allow the camera to operate off an external battery pack (shooting long exposures at night all night for example). That way I can hook it up to a 20,000 mAh battery pack and let it run all night.

if your 20,000 mAh pack has a usb output, your good to go

.....I have this for my A6100 and it works great. Hoping to find something similar for the A7iii NP-FZ100 battery - https://www.amazon.com/Version-AC-PW20-Adpater-Coupler-Replacement/dp/B076ZXKBSG/
Trying to replicate the dummy battery from Amazon that was inserted into battery compartment like your a6100, I believe needs betw 7.4 and 8.4 volts for a7iii. I doubt a 5v USB battery pack will work thru battery bay circuit.

As tcoquelin suggested, a 5v usb bat pack would work by using the a7iii USB port.

I personally use a FZ-100 dummy connected to 18650 battery pack lasting only 8 hours. For overnight it's likely best for 20K bat pack to cam's usb port.
