Wow, this guy is colourful, brillant colours in his coat! Looks like he has overdosed on E numbers! I wonder how being so colourful assists them evolutionary wise? You'd think that standing out so much with all those brillant colours would make them prey to others, or do they need the smart coats to attract the opposite sex?

A bit like human males I think, do whatever it takes to get the girls, even if it puts our lives at risk... 🤠

Because I am trying to get another shot of non-wildlife in the area that just isn't ready yet I end up near an area in which some ducks are a little less skittish than they are in other areas. Fortunately/Unfortunately one of those types is a Wood Duck. Wood Ducks are my favorite duck normally found in my area but I am now getting a lot of great shots and many are beginning to look too much alike.

The rainbow lorikeets abound on the headlands eating nectar from flowering plants. So much that they’re drunk most of the time, hence that cheerful smile. Happy drunks. They are pretty well camouflaged in the banksia trees but stand out when they’re flying.

I spent a few hours this afternoon with these guys. Gorgeous!

This was the very first time I've been able to capture any rainbow lorikeets since the time I went out with the Sigma 150-600mm, which I took straight back and swapped for the Sony. You've done extremely well to catch that one in flight mate, as they really motor through the air these things! They fly with a lot of purpose! 🫡

They’re certainly avoiding that kestrel, though I think it was looking for fairy wrens. And, my right arm is still sore this morning. 😂😂 try as I might I missed every single one in flight with low altitude sunlight behind me, BIF racing towards me. That’s the prize. After my arm stops aching, I’ll try again. Otherwise I’ll find a way to do an exhibition of blurred rainbow lorikeets flashing through the seascape. 🙌🙌😀

That white-faced Herron I saw flying over the beach the other day has settled into the neighborhood for a while. Hunting for insects in the grass.

The “Superb Fairy Wren” in its colours out of season is about the same size as a ping pong ball and darts around eating small insects. It’s well camouflaged from birds of prey at this time of year.

Hands off my beautiful wrens! I'll come at this bastard with a brick! 🤬

Love the neck wobble they do when they're about to eat. Makes me feel like I'm not the only one... 😃

Extra reach? The lens was about 2" from them! Yes, handheld my friend. 🙂
