I broke a 16-35mm GM lens on a trip, the aperture can not change nor focus works (either auto or manual). So, have to look into either repairing or replacing. Wondering what others experience was repairing a lens with similar issues. Should I send for repair, or look at buying a used? Do repair costs for the electronics/mechanical get costly, or is this cheaper than the actual glass/lens repairs?

I never damaged a lens that bad. After testing the bouncability of the 200-600 the repair was about 1000+shipping. The repair to my 100-400 was about 1300 but I really don't know why (very poor experience with Cardinal Camera the company Sony told me to send it too).

That is as bad as I feared, I might even think that just buying the new GM II would be a better option as any weight savings I can find helps me a lot. If it was a matter of $300-500, then I would think repair would be the better option.

Worst thing of all, this was someone thinking to help me by grabbing my backpack but not checking if it was zipped up. It was not so I could have easy access to the lens. Had I been the one I would have made sure everything was secure. *#&$
