The Sony a7 IV is compatible with all of Sony’s E-mount lenses including E-mount lenses from third-parties like Sigma and Tamron.

In this guide you’ll find a complete list of full-frame E-mount lenses available from Sony, Tamron, Sigma, Rokinon / Samyang and Voigtländer. There are further companies producing E-mount lenses but this guide focusses on the big five.

Sony A7 IV Lenses Guide

Lenses with different mounts such as Sony A-Mount or Canon EF-Mount can be used on the Sony a7 IV but you’ll need to use a lens adapter. See the lens adapter section of this article for further details.

Tamron Lenses

Tamron have developed a reputation of producing excellent quality lenses for Sony’s E-mount system without breaking the bank.

Here’s the complete list of Tamron full-frame prime lenses for the Sony a7 IV.

Sigma Lenses

Sigma have also developed some excellent quality lenses for Sony’s E-mount.

I’m only going to included Sigma lenses here designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras, because some of Sigma’s older E-mount lenses were designed for SLR cameras and just had an adapter fitted to them making them large, heavy and typically slower to focus.

If you’d still like to see all of Sigma’s E-mount lenses included their older SLR adapted lenses then you’ll find the complete list here.

Samyang / Rokinon Lenses

Samyang (also known as Rokinon and Bowens) are also well known for producing some excellent E-mount lenses at a fraction of the cost of Sony’s own native lenses.

Although Samyang / Rokinon have both manual focus and autofocus lenses available, I’m only going to cover their autofocus lenses in this list.

Lens Adapters

Lenses with different mounts such as Sony A-Mount or Canon EF-Mount can be used on the Sony a7 IV but you’ll need to use a lens adapter. Here’s an overview of the lens adapters available.

Sony LA-EA5 Adapter

Sony LA-EA5 Adapter

The LA-EA5 adapter provides autofocus support for Sony A-mount SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) lenses, SAM (Smooth Autofocus Motor) lenses, and even non-motorized screw-drive lenses in still shooting modes. However, compatibility depends on the lens that you are using. For full lens compatibility details with the a7 IV please see this guide.

Metabones Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Lens Adapter

Metabones Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Lens Adapter

The Metabones adapter lets you mount Canon EF/EF-S lenses to Sony E-mount cameras like the a7 IV. It retains electronic communication between the camera and lens to provide automatic aperture control, EXIF data, image stabilization and autofocus. Metabones deliver regular firmware updates that helps to improve AF performance with many Canon EF lenses.

Sigma MC-11 Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Lens Adapter

Sigma MC-11 Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Lens Adapter

The MC-11 Mount Converter enables the use of Sigma EF-mount lenses on Sony E-mount camera bodies. It supports autofocus and auto-exposure, as well as in-camera image stabilization and full EXIF data transfer. Sigma has a lens compatibility list for this adapter but many Canon lenses also work very well.

Monster Adapter LA-FE1 Nikon F to Sony E

Monster LA-FE1 Nikon F to Sony E Adapter

The Monster adapter LA-FE1 adds autofocus capabilities to Nikon AF-I, AF-S and AF-P lenses. For lenses with full support, the adapter will also drive both electromagnetic and mechanical lever aperture diaphragms. Fully-manual lenses and screw-drive lenses don’t get any sort of focus or aperture control, but the adapter will still work passively with them. You can find full camera and lens compatibility information on the Monster Adapter website here.

About Timothy Mayo

I love shooting wildlife the most but will happily point my camera at pretty much anything. I started Alpha Shooters in 2017 to share my own photographic journey and experiences shooting with Sony Alpha. The site has since evolved into a popular community and resource. You can find out more about my story here or follow me on Instagram if you wish. I also have a YouTube Channel but haven’t published much content over the past year due to spending more time changing smelly nappies and also launching our community forums. However, I do hope to get back to creating content again there soon!
