Last updated: September 14, 2023 / Published: September 14, 2023 by Timothy Mayo - Leave a Comment

In this quick accessory guide you’ll find my top 15 recommended accessories for the Sony A7C R compact mirrorless camera.

I will be extending this guide just as soon as more accessories are available and confirmed to be supported with the A7C R.

Please let me know in the comments below if there are any accessories that you think should be included.

Sony A7C / A7CII / A7CR Forum & Facebook Group

If you are looking for further help and advice on the A7C or would simply like to share your photos and videos, then please head over to our friendly Forums. If you prefer Facebook then I also run the Sony A7C + A7CII + A7CR Shooters Group.

1. Sony PCK-LG2 Screen Protector

The Sony PCK-LG2 is a hardened glass screen protector. It’s also the same screen protector supported by the Sony A7C II, Sony ZV-E1, Sony A7IV and Sony A6700.

Just a word of caution when installing this. If you don’t manage to align it perfectly the first time it’s best to just leave it as is. If you remove it and try again it will lose its stickiness.

The Sony PCK-LG2 is not a cheap screen protector and if you’d prefer a cheaper third-party option then the Expert Shield Screen Protector for the Sony A6700 should fit fine since they share exactly the same LCD.

2. ProGrade V90 UHS-II Memory Cards

ProGrade V90 UHS-II Memor Cards

The Sony Alpha 7C R is compatible with UHS-II and UHS-I SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards in its single card slot.

I’d recommend the faster UHS-II cards because these will help the buffer to clear faster and also speed up the time it takes to copy files over to your computer, especially since the files from the A7C R are pretty large!

Although I’ve not had chance to test these cards in the A7C R, I have tested them in my Sony A7R V Memory Card Guide where they performed very well.

They are V90 rated for video so will comfortably allow you to shoot in all of the video formats supported by the A7C R.

They are available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB sizes.

For further advice on memory cards for the A7C R including the slower but less expensive UHS-I cards please visit my Sony A7C R Memory Card Guide.

3. Sony NP-FZ100 Battery & BC-QZ1 Battery Charger

The Sony NP-FZ100 (2280mAh) rechargeable battery is the supported battery for the Sony A7C R. One of these should be included with the camera if you purchased from it new.

It’s not a cheap battery but I would recommend using this battery over third-party alternatives that may not function correctly in-camera and potentially risk damaging your A7C R.

There is no external battery charger or USB-C charging cable in the box with the A7C R.

The official Sony external charger for the NP-FZ100 battery is the Sony BC-QZ1 Battery Charger. This is the fastest way to charge the battery and will charge a single battery in approximately 150 minutes.

4. USB-C Cables

The NP-FZ100 battery can be charged inside the A7C R via its USB-C port and a compatible cable.

If you don’t already have USB cables at home then here are a couple of options depending on the connection on your USB charger (which hopefully you have already, if not click here).

Anker PowerLine II USB-C 3.1 Gen2

Anker USB-C to USB-C Cable

This is the cable to use with a USB-C charger. It has a USB-C connector on each end and supports transfer rates of up to 10Gbps.

5. Sony RMT-P1BT Remote Commander

Sony RMT-P1BT Remote Commander

The RMT-P1BT bluetooth remote covers essential camera controls including shutter release, focus, movie recording start/stop, power/digital zoom and a a lock switch. There are also two custom buttons that mirror the functions set to the C1 and AF-ON buttons on your camera body.

The remote features a very fast 0.05 seconds release time which is helpful for catching fast action shots like the one above.

The RMT-P1BT also supports continuous shooting, you can simply hold down the shutter button to shoot continuously.

Unfortunately you can’t link location information with a smartphone when the [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] is set to [On].

Also if you want to manually control the focus using this remote, you need to switch the camera into MF mode using the camera’s menu, and not the MF/AF switch on the lens, if you use the lens AF/MF switch then the remote won’t work.

6. Peak Design Cuff + Slide Lite Straps

The Peak Design Cuff wrist strap will help to protect your A7C R from accidental drops. It connects via Peak Designs anchor system and the wrist loop magnetically locks into place.

The Peak Design Slide Lite can be worn as a sling, neck, or shoulder strap. It uses internally-padded nylon webbing has a smooth side that glides over clothing in sling mode and a grippy side that prevents slipping in shoulder mode.

7. Peak Design Travel Travel Tripod

Peak Design Travel Travel Tripod

There are two versions of the Peak Design Travel tripod. A carbon model that weighs 1.27 kg (2.81 lbs) and an aluminum model that weights 1.56 kg (3.44 lbs). Both versions have a maximum weight capacity of 9.1 kg (20 lbs).

The tripod features a very compact form factor and 5 section quick release legs that deploy in seconds without having to flip over like traditional travel tripod legs.

There’s an omnidirectional ergonomic ball head included that is compatible with all PD plates and most 3rd party Arca-type plates.

When collapsed the tripod measure 39.1 cm (15.4”) in length and 7.9 cm (3.125″) in diameter. The maximum height (center column raised) is 152.4 cm (60″), or 130.2 cm (51.25″) with the center column down. The minimum height (low mode) is 14 cm (5.5”).

The following review from Dustin Abbott is worth watching if you’d like to learn more about this tripod.

8. Manfrotto PIXI EVO Mini Tripod

If the Peak Design tripod is too big then the Manfrotto PIXI EVO Mini Tripod is worth a look. The legs extend for additional height and stability and it can also be used as a selfie stick. It supports a maximum weight of 2.49 kg / 5.5lbs.

9. Sony ECM-M1 Shotgun Microphone

Sony ECM-M1 Shotgun Microphone
Sony ECM-M1 Shotgun Microphone

The Sony ECM-M1 uses beamforming technology and advanced digital processing technology to provide eight audio recording modes including stereo to deliver outstanding sound quality in a wide range of situations.

The microphone takes advantage of the Sony A7C R’s digital audio interface to avoid the noise and distortion associated with analogue transmission.

Sony’s introducing video below will help you to learn more about this microphone.

And for an independent review I’d strongly recommend watching Gordon Lang’s review:

10. Sony GP-X2 Grip Extension

Sony GP-X2 Grip Extension
Sony GP-X2 Grip Extension

The Sony GP-X2 Grip Extension is included with the Sony A7C R. But I’ve included it here just in case you’ve purchased it secondhand without or have lost yours.

The grip helps to make the compact body of the A7C R more comfortable to hold, especially for those with larger hands.

The improved little finger placement ensures a steady grip and helps to prevent fatigue during long sessions.

The battery can also be replaced without removing the grip from the camera body.

11. Peak Design Everyday Sling v2

Peak Design Everyday Sling v2

The Everyday Sling v2 from Peak Design is a compact, versatile carrying option that can worn around the waist or as a sling bag.

The sling has been designed to to fit snugly against the body and the zippered clamshell opening allows the main compartment to be easily reached, this includes two dividers that can be configured according to the specific equipment being carried.

The sling is constructed from a durable nylon construction and is weather resistant. The bottom panel is also waterproof.

There’s an internal, padded sleeve for an 11″ tablet computer and six pockets within the main compartment that can store and organize camera batteries, memory cards, or small electronics.

It’s available in Ash, Black and Midnight Blue colors.

12. Sensor Swab Ultra Full-Frame (24mm)

Sensor Swab Ultra Full-Frame (24mm)

If you are comfortable with cleaning your Sony A7C R’s sensor yourself then I’d recommend purchasing these sensor swabs.

They’re designed to clean oil, dust, and debris from your cameras full-frame sensor. Just make sure that you purchase the Type-3 (24mm) size.

Before you start cleaning the sensor make sure that you select the Sensor Cleaning option from the setup menu before switching off the A7C R. This will lock the IBIS mechanism in place to prevent any movement during cleaning.

13. Rocket Air Blaster

Rocket Air Blaster

The rocket blaster is an essential tool that should be in all photographers bags.

It’s perfect for blowing dust off your camera, off the sensor, lenses and filters.

I’d be lost without mine and would probably end up spitting all over my sensor whilst trying to gently remove any visible dust particles!

14. Zeiss Cleaning Wipes

Zeiss Cleaning Wipes

These are great for cleaning your camera, lenses and filters. You can also use them to clean your glasses or mobile displays.

I’ve even used them on my 65″ TV to remove my kids finger prints but I’ll admit they probably aren’t best suited to such a large screen!

After using the cleaning wipes these microfiber cloths will help to achieve a spotless finish.

About Timothy Mayo

I started Alpha Shooters back in 2017 to share my own experiences as a photographer shooting with Sony Alpha cameras, lenses and accessories.

I enjoy wildlife photography the most but will happily point my camera at pretty much anything.

As well as this blog you’ll also find a community forum which provides members with a friendly and safe place to share images and ask questions.

You can find out more about my story here or follow me on Instagram if you wish.

I also have a YouTube Channel but haven’t published much content recently due to the demands of my one and three year old boys.
