Which Memory Cards are Compatible?
The Sony RX1R III has a single memory card slot that is compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.
Here’s a quick speed comparison between UHS-I and UHS-II cards.
- UHS-I: theoretical maximum transfer speeds of up to 104MB/s
- UHS-II: theoretical maximum transfer speeds of up to 312MB/s
In-Camera Write Speed Comparison
With the RX1R III only just being announced I’ve not yet had the opportunity to test these cards in camera. The below in-camera tests were carried out using my Sony A6700.
Best UHS-II Memory Cards for Sony RX1R III
With a 61MP sensor the Sony RX1R III is capable of producing file sizes up to around 135MB when shooting uncompressed RAW, so it will not take long before you have many GB’s worth of images.
Therefore I’d strongly recommend that you use one of the faster UHS-II memory cards that will help the buffer to clear faster and also enable you to copy files over to your computer approximately 3x faster than the UHS-I cards.

Summary
If you shoot a lot of continuous bursts and require the buffer to clear quickly then my recommended memory card for the Sony RX1R III is the Kingston Canvas React Plus V90 UHS-II (B&H Photo | Amaozon) card due to its performance and price.
The Kingston card has always performed well in my in-camera tests. I’d also comfortably recommend the Delkin Devices Power and Black UHS-II cards.
If you shoot in harsh environments then it might possibly be worth paying the extra for the Sony Tough card, otherwise please save your money.
Ultimately all of the top 10 UHS-II cards that I have tested will all perform well in the Sony RX1R III.
I’d strongly advise against going with one of the cheaper UHS-I cards especially when dealing with the large 61MP files that the RX1R III produces.
