Birds Birds Non-BIF Thread - Post Your Shots Here

What did you pay mate? I got mine at the DigiDirect sales. $2,500 with 2x teleconverter included, crazy stuff! ✅
$1790 with the trade in, hood included.. you did very well. I have a 1.4TC so was intent on testing that combo first.

Stone Curlew at Minsmere. Not close, so a very big crop in tricky light, but a first ever for me, and a real pleasure. Thankfully this was early in the day, so the heat haze hadn't built up yet. A big thanks to Unframed Dave, as he booked the guided tour that we had that gave us a chance to see these.

I heard a ruckus outside, and when I went to investigate, I found that a couple of Steller's Jays had come by for a visit. I've never seen one, so this was a pleasant surprise. A real point-and-shoot moment.

Bird... ✅

My favourite bloke doing his number one alpha pose! These guys have the attitude to suit their body language too..! Pity they're only a few inches tall because if they were even the size of a cockatoo I reckon you'd see videos of them bashing lions and crocodiles! 😄

Very nice Chaitali. Can I suggest you clean your sensor, lots of little blobs from dust there.

I had an interesting encounter with this little Eastern Phoebe. We were walking around a local nature preserve and while I heard several birds I didn't see any, at least not so that I could get a photo. As we were nearing the end of the walk a bird flew across the path and landed in a tree just off the trail. I got a couple of shots and then starting moving in closer. The bird was very cooperative and posed for me. Then it flew toward me and hovered just a foot or so from me before flying to another close limb. It did this three more times and the last time flew up and looked like it would land on my arm. Instead it hovered and pecked my arm three times before flying back to a limb and then heading back into the woods. Here are some shots of it. As you can see from the EXIF info, it stayed around long enough for me to change settings. I also posted on a local bird watching page and a couple of other folks had seen the same behavior from an Eastern Phoebe in this park so we wonder if it is the same bird.

I love the expression on the duck in the bottom pic. On a technical note, I'm curious what you think of the teleconverter. I've been happy with my 70-200mm but there are certainly instances where some more reach would be nice.
Hi Brian, thanks, I also love the expression on that ducks face. Concerning the 2.0x, I’ve been thinking about getting this TC for almost a year now. I’ve read so much about the TC, both good and bad. I love the 70-200 GM II f2.8, but like yourself wanted more reach. I only got the TC last Saturday and so have only tried it out on a few targets, stationary, moving and macro and I simply love it. I have fewer keepers with the TC, but I’m not sure if that is due to inexperience or the TC. I have a few more images to process, including some of the moon from last night so will have a better idea in a few days, But first impressions, I’m simply loving it.
