Along with the new Sony A7R VI we also now have a new Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens which follows on from the 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS from way back in 2017.

Of course there are a few differences. The new lens features a constant maximum aperture, as well as an internal zooming design like the 200-600 G and 70-200 F2.8 GM lenses.
At 328mm (12.9″), the lens is larger than the previous 100-400, which had an extending design and was 205 mm (8.1″) long at its shortest. It’s also heavier, weighing in at 1840g (64.9oz), versus 1495g (52.7oz).
So is the new lens cheaper than the old one? Don’t be daft! It features a substantially higher price than its predecessor, retailing for $4300 in the US and £4399 in the UK.
You can already pre-order the lens which will start shipping in early June alongside the new A7R VI.
