Sony A6600 Accessories Guide

Launched in 2019 the Sony A6600 was Sony’s flagship APS-C mirrorless camera, that is until it was replaced by the Sony A6700 in 2023.

In this short guide you’ll find my top 10 recommended accessories to pair with your A6600 in 2024.

My Top 10 Sony A6600 Accessories

Here are my top 10 recommended accessories for the Sony a6600 mirrorless camera.

1. Sony PCK-LM17 Screen Protector

The Sony PCK-LM17 is a semi hard screen protector that protects the a6600 LCD from scratches and knocks.

Sony generally advertises this as a screen protector for the Sony a6000 and a6300 but I’m using it on my a6400 which has an identical LCD screen to the a6600 and it works absolutely fine. It doesn’t impact the clarity of the screen or the touch functions.

Just a word of caution. When installing if you don’t manage to align it perfectly the first time it’s best to just leave it. If you remove it and try again it will lose its stickiness and dust and fluff will soon be all over it as well.

2. Rocket Air Blaster

The rocket air blaster is a fantastic accessory for blowing dust of your sensor, lenses, filters and from the electronic viewfinder of the a6600.

It’s much better to use one of these first before grabbing a microfiber cloth that can sometimes just add more dust particles and grease if not perfectly clean and lint free.

3. Sony NP-FZ100 Battery and BC-QZ1 Charger

The Sony a6600 is the first APS-C camera from Sony that uses the larger NP-FZ100 battery. The NP-FZ100 delivers around double the battery life compared to the smaller NP-FW50 battery found in cameras like the a6400, but if you are shooing all day you will want at least one additional battery.

The a6600 unfortunately does not include an external battery charger in the box for fast charging, so you can only charge the NP-FZ100 in-camera via the USB power adapter. If you want to charge the battery externally then you will need the Sony BC-QZ1 battery charger.

4. SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I (170/90)

The Sony a6600 only supports UHS-I SD cards and not the faster UHS-II cards that are supported in cameras like the Sony a7III. You can still use UHS-II cards in the a6600 but you won’t get the speed benefit in-camera. So unless you enjoy throwing money away I’d recommend picking up the UHS-I cards instead.

I recommend the SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SD cards that have a claimed read speed of 170MB/s and a write speed of 90MB/s. These are currently one of the fastest and most reliable UHS-I memory cards that you can slot into the Sony a6600.

5. Manfrotto PIXI EVO Mini Tripod

For an extremely lightweight and compact mini tripod then you don’t really need to look much further than the Manfrotto Pixi Evo.

Featuring a ball head and ergonomic grip, it supports a maximum weight of 5.5lbs / 2.5kg and the legs can be extended for additional stability.

It can also be used as a selfie stick for vlogging and is available in three different color combinations: Black, white or red-anthracite.

6. Rode VideoMicro

If you want to improve the internal audio on the a6600 but don’t want to fork out for the Rode VideoMic Pro+, then Rode VideoMicro is a great option to consider.

It’s a lot smaller and lighter than the Pro version and does not require an additional battery, you simply connect it through the mic port and you’ll be ready to go.

7. Sony RMT-P1BT Remote Commander

If are not a fan of using your smartphone to remotely shoot with the a6600 then the Sony RMT-P1BT is definitely an option that you will want to consider.

It operates using Bluetooth connectivity which provides a reliable connection even in bright sunlight or when there are obstacles between the remote and the camera. The RMT-P1BT remote works reliably up to around 18m or 60 feet away from the camera, and this is the case whether you are behind or in front or the camera, indoors or outdoors.

It features a fast 0.05 seconds release time and an external LED that flashes or lights continuously to show shutter, movie recording and AF status.

The remote covers essential camera controls including releasing the shutter, a focus button, a lock switch that prevents accidental operation during transport, movie recording start/stop and power/digital zoom. There are also two custom buttons that mirror the functions of the C1 and AF-ON buttons on the camera body.

When the Bluetooth Remote option is enabled in the a6600 settings then unfortunately the “Location Info Link” is disabled. So if you are using Imaging Edge Mobile to record your location information via bluetooth, I’m afraid this will not work at the same time as the RMT-P1BT remote.

The RMT-P1BT also supports burst shooting, so when you are in continuous shooting mode you can hold down the shutter button to shoot continuously.

8. Peak Design Cuff + Slide Lite Straps

The Peak Design Cuff wrist strap is a great way to protect your camera from accidental drops. It connects to the a6600 via Peak Designs anchor system and the wrist loop magnetically locks in the open position, or comfortably cinches down on your wrist for added security.

The Peak Design Slide Lite can be worn as a sling, neck, or shoulder strap. It uses internally-padded nylon webbing has a smooth side that glides over clothing in sling mode and a grippy side that prevents slipping in shoulder mode.

9. SmallRig L Bracket LCS2503

The SmallRig L-bracket for Sony A6600 (LCS2503) features anti-twist flanges to keep the camera from twisting (a problem with previous models) and also provide additional support for your pinky finger.

Both the base plate and side plate are Arca-swiss compatible for mounting in a vertical or horizontal positions. The side plate can also be extended for additional port access.

The side of L plate also features a cold shoe mount that could be used for a microphone so that it doesn’t get in the way of the LCD when flipped up.

10. Think Tank Digital Holster 10 V2.0

If you are looking for a small bag for the a6600 together with your favorite lens then the Think Tank Digital Holster 10 V2.0 is a great option. I recently bought this myself and can confirm that it’s built to Think Tanks usual high standards when it comes to quality.

You can carry it using the included shoulder strap or attach it to a belt if you prefer. There’s plenty of padding, an inner pocket for sd cards and the side pocket that also houses the waterproof cover still has enough room for a spare NP-FZ100 battery.

The bag will comfortably fit the a6600 together with a lens up to 115mm / 4.52 inches in length. However you can also extend the bags height by 5.8cm / 2.28 inches using the built in extension at the bottom of the bag.

I’ve tested it with the Sony E 18-105mm F4, the Sony E 18-135mm, Sigma 16mm F1.4, Sigma 30mm F.4 and they all fit comfortably without needing the extension. Using the extension you’ll now fit in the Sony E 70-350, Sony FE 70-300 or the Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro lens. So it really is a very versatile camera bag.
