About Timothy Mayo

I love shooting wildlife the most but will happily point my camera at pretty much anything. I started Alpha Shooters in 2017 to share my own photographic journey and experiences shooting with Sony Alpha. The site has since evolved into a popular community and resource. You can also find out more about my story here or follow me on Instagram if you wish. I also have a YouTube Channel but haven't published much content over the past year due to spending more time changing smelly nappies and also launching our community forums. However, I do plan to get back to creating content for YouTube in 2021!

Hey there. Any news if the Sony a6000 is compatible yet or if it will be added in the future?

I’ve not seen it added to the compatibility list and since it was recently discontinued I’m not going to be holding my breath unfortunately.

I have 7RM2. Software does not connect to Mac 10.15 despite updating firmware to latest version. (Note the firmware updater did not recognize the camera using 10.15. Firmware updater worked on a legacy machine running 10.11 with no problem.) Interestingly, the remote control software connects, but not webcam.

    The instructions state:

    • MENU →  //:0 (Network) /  //:0 (Wireless) → [Ctrl w/ Smartphone] → [Ctrl w/ Smartphone] → [Off]*

This exact menu item is not present

    • MENU →  //:0 (Setup) → [USB Connection] → [PC Remote]

This does exist in the menu

    any ideas??

Hi Sip. I’d suggest speaking with your local Sony support team about this. Unfortunately I don’t have the a7R II anymore to check this myself. That menu should be present though, it’s mentioned here in the online help guide: https://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1520/v1/en/contents/TP0001077262.html?search=PC%20Remote

Strange that the A6000 isn’t in the list of supported cameras.
I’ll try it anyway and see!

How did it go?? I’ve been trying with no good results. My last chance is make a firmware update and try again.

Even after a firmware upgrade to the latest (3.21) I can’t get it to work.

Sorry to hear that Gabe. Make sure your camera is supported and that you have the latest firmware installed. If you do and it’s still not working I’d recommend trying your local Sony support team.

I guess Sony needs to draw the line somewhere, and of course they like to try and push people to buy new cameras as well unfortunately!

        the ILCE-5100 made the list.
        isnt that an older model?

It is. The a5100 came out in 2014 along with the a6000, so it is strange that the a6000 has not been included for now.
