Venus Optics has announced a new 85mm F5.6 2x Ultra Macro APO lens, which according to them is the world’s smallest 2x macro lens for full-frame mirrorless camera systems like the new Sony a7 IV.
This is a manual focus lens and it’s constructed of 13 elements in nine groups, including three extra-low dispersion elements, using an apochromatic (APO) design that helps to minimize chromatic aberrations.
The lens weighs just 259g / 9.13 oz, has a minimum focusing distance of 16.3cm (6.4″), a 2x magnification ratio and an internal focusing mechanism so that the front lens barrel doesn’t extend when focusing.
Here’s a short video from Venus Optics that showcases the new lens:
The 85mm F5.6 2x Ultra Macro APO lens is already available from the Venus Optics website and authorized retailers priced at $449. The lens will start shipping in December 2021.
